The Universal Business Directories map published in 1944 provides a unique insight into Australia during the Second World War. The map's Pacific projection places it at the centre of the map with the World spread around it, clearly denoting German and Japanese-held territories. Of specific importance are the locations of Japanese Naval bases, presumably because of the fear of invasion at the time. The ties to the Empire are strongly reflected in the colouring of the British Empire in Pink.

Below the map is a calendar for 1944 - 1945 with the wonderful expression of hope "May these months bring us peace". Underneath is an advertisement for Pope Products Limited expressing great pride in its wartime contribution of building aircraft bombs for the allied cause. The advert showcases the men and women working in the Pope factory.

Apart from being a beautiful Mercator projection map, this print is an incredible window into the spirit of a nation beset by external threats and working together as part of a greater whole.

The map can come either printed on heavyweight 160 gsm paper or laminated. The paper version is perfect for framing under glass, and the laminated version is exceptionally hard-wearing as we use a true encapsulation of two pieces of 80-micron gloss laminate.

Alternatively, we can supply this map on 395 gsm HP Professional Matte Canvas using pigment-based inks - making the map highly durable and fade-resistant. The exceptional clarity of printing makes this map a stunning addition to any room, and its high quality means that it will provide years of enjoyment.

The easiest way to hang your canvas map is by having wooden hang rollers attached top and bottom with a hanging cord on the top roller, so all you have to do is put a hook on the wall. The hang rails come lacquered in a natural timber colour.

Note: Please allow ten working days to deliver hang-railed maps as they need to be attached by our framer.
