π§ How to Take a Bearing β 3 Simple Steps
STEP 1
Place the compass on the map and align the baseplate with your intended route. Make sure the direction-of-travel arrow points toward your destination.
STEP 2
Rotate the capsule so the north arrow lines up with the north-south grid lines on the map. The red end of the needle must point to north on the map.
STEP 3
Lift the compass and turn your body until the needle lines up with the north arrow inside the capsule. The direction-of-travel arrow now points exactly where you need to go β pick a landmark and walk toward it.
β οΈ Care & Storage
To keep your compass accurate:
-
Avoid storing near phones, radios, magnets or metal
-
Do not expose to extreme heat or cold
-
Store flat when not in use
Improper storage may cause needle magnetism loss or capsule bubbles.
