1. About this Policy

Your privacy is important to Mapworld. Mapworld is operated by O'Keeffe Enterprises as Trustee for The MAPWORLD Trust, trading as MAPWORLD (ABN 56 143 667 206; ACN 107 186 569). This Privacy Policy explains how Mapworld (referred to as “Mapworld”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, holds, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you visit mapworld.com.au, place an order, contact us or otherwise use our services.

We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles where they apply.

This Privacy Policy should be read together with our Terms of Service, Refund Policy and Shipping Policy.

You may browse much of our website without identifying yourself. However, we need certain personal information to process orders, arrange delivery, respond to enquiries and provide other requested services.

2. Personal Information We Collect

Depending on how you interact with Mapworld, we may collect:

  • Your name, billing address, delivery address, email address and telephone number.

  • Account information, if you create a customer account.

  • Order and transaction information, including products purchased, order value, payment status, delivery method and transaction dates.

  • Information you provide in emails, telephone calls, contact forms, reviews, surveys, support requests or other correspondence.

  • Marketing preferences and newsletter subscription information.

  • Website and device information, including your IP address, browser type, device type, cookie identifiers, pages viewed, referring website, searches and interactions with our website.

  • Information required to prevent fraud, protect our systems, comply with the law or resolve a dispute.

Payment details are processed by secure third-party payment providers. Mapworld does not permanently store complete credit card numbers or card security codes.

We do not ordinarily collect sensitive information. If sensitive information is ever required, we will only collect it where reasonably necessary and with your consent, or where otherwise permitted or required by law.

3. How We Collect Information

We may collect personal information:

  • Directly from you when you place an order, create an account, subscribe to marketing, complete a form or contact us.

  • Automatically when you use our website, through cookies and similar technologies.

  • From service providers involved in processing payments, preventing fraud, fulfilling orders, delivering parcels, operating our website or providing analytics and advertising services.

  • From publicly available sources or other third parties where permitted by law.

If you provide personal information about another person, such as a delivery recipient, you should have their permission to do so and ensure the information is accurate.

4. How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to:

  • Process payments and complete, pack, dispatch and deliver orders.

  • Contact you about an order, payment, delivery, back order, return or enquiry.

  • Create and manage customer accounts.

  • Provide customer service and respond to questions, complaints and requests.

  • Operate, maintain, secure and improve our website, products and services.

  • Personalise website content and understand how customers use our website.

  • Conduct analytics, measure advertising performance and improve our marketing.

  • Send newsletters, product information, offers and other marketing communications where permitted by law.

  • Detect, investigate and prevent fraud, misuse, security incidents and unlawful activity.

  • Maintain business, taxation and accounting records.

  • Establish, exercise or defend legal rights and comply with legal obligations.

Shopify, payment providers and fraud-prevention services may use automated tools to identify potentially fraudulent or high-risk transactions. These checks may result in an order being delayed, reviewed or declined. Please contact us if you believe a transaction has been incorrectly affected.

5. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the store, remember preferences, understand website usage, improve performance and, where enabled, measure or personalise advertising.

These technologies may collect information such as your IP address, browser, device, pages viewed, referring website and interactions with our store. Some cookies are necessary for functions such as the shopping cart, checkout, security and account access. Other cookies may be used for analytics or advertising, subject to applicable law and your consent choices.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings and any privacy or cookie controls displayed on our website. Blocking some cookies may affect the way the website or checkout functions.

You can learn more or manage relevant choices through Shopify’s privacy controls.

6. Marketing Communications

If you subscribe to our mailing list or otherwise agree to receive marketing, we may send you information about products, services, offers and Mapworld news.

You can unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or by contacting us. Unsubscribing from marketing will not prevent us from sending service messages relating to an order, account or enquiry.

7. When We Disclose Personal Information

We may disclose personal information only where reasonably necessary to operate our business, provide our services or comply with the law. Recipients may include:

  • Shopify, which hosts and supports our online store.

  • Payment processors and financial service providers, including eWAY, PayPal and Shopify payment services, depending on the payment method selected.

  • Australia Post, couriers, freight providers and other delivery partners.

  • Website hosting, information technology, cloud storage, email, customer support, analytics, advertising and security providers.

  • Professional advisers, including accountants, insurers and legal advisers.

  • Government agencies, regulators, courts, law-enforcement bodies or other parties where disclosure is authorised or required by law.

  • A purchaser, adviser or relevant party in connection with a proposed or completed sale, merger, restructuring or transfer of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.

We do not sell personal information for money. We require service providers to handle information only for authorised purposes and to protect it appropriately.

8. Overseas Processing and Disclosure

Some of our technology, payment, analytics, advertising and support providers operate outside Australia. As a result, personal information may be stored or processed overseas, including in Canada and the United States, and in other countries where our service providers or their data centres operate.

The countries involved can change as providers update their systems and subcontractors. Where required by law, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information appropriately.

9. Payment Security

Our website uses encrypted connections to protect information during transmission. Payments are processed by secure third-party payment providers, which may include eWAY, PayPal or Shopify payment services.

Mapworld does not permanently store complete credit card details. Payment providers handle payment information under their own privacy policies, security standards and legal obligations.

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. How We Protect Personal Information

We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards designed to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Access to personal information is limited to people and service providers who need it for legitimate business purposes. We also review our systems and practices and take appropriate action when a security issue is identified.

11. How Long We Keep Information

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide services, maintain business and transaction records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and meet taxation, accounting and other legal requirements.

When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete it, destroy it securely or de-identify it, subject to technical and legal limitations.

12. Access, Correction and Deletion Requests

You may ask to access personal information we hold about you or request that inaccurate, out-of-date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading information be corrected.

You may also request deletion of personal information. We will consider the request subject to applicable laws and any need to retain information for taxation, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or other legitimate purposes.

To make a request, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We may need to verify your identity before providing access, making a correction or deleting information. We will respond within a reasonable period and explain any lawful reason why we cannot fully comply with a request.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights under local law.

13. Data Breaches

If we become aware of a data breach involving personal information, we will investigate it and take reasonable steps to contain the breach and reduce possible harm. Where required by applicable law, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

14. Privacy Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, please contact us in writing and describe your concern. We will acknowledge and investigate your complaint and aim to provide a response within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be entitled to make a privacy complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. The OAIC can also be contacted by telephone on 1300 363 992.
