Terms of service

Last updated: 13 August 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Service govern your use of mapworld.com.au and any purchase you make from Mapworld online, by telephone, by email or in person.

The website is owned and operated by O'Keeffe Enterprises as Trustee for The MAPWORLD Trust, trading as MAPWORLD (ABN 56 143 667 206; ACN 107 186 569). Further information is available in our Statement of Ownership. In these Terms, “Mapworld”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to that business.

By using our website or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. These Terms should be read together with the product description, your order confirmation, our Refund Policy, Privacy Policy and Shopping, Shipping and Returns Policy.

If an order-specific written agreement expressly conflicts with these Terms, the order-specific agreement will apply to that order. Nothing in these Terms excludes any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.

2. Eligibility and Authority

You must be at least 18 years old to place an order, or have the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

If you place an order for a company, government body, school or other organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to act for that organisation and provide the relevant billing and delivery details.

3. Orders and Contract Formation

When placing an order, you are responsible for checking the products, quantities, finishes, dimensions, delivery address and contact details before submitting it.

Submitting an order is an offer to purchase. An automated order acknowledgement confirms that we have received your order but does not necessarily mean that we have accepted it. We accept an order when we expressly confirm acceptance, begin producing a made-to-order item or dispatch the goods, whichever occurs first.

Before accepting an order, we may reasonably decline it because:

  • A product is unavailable or cannot be supplied within a reasonable time.

  • Payment has not been authorised or appears fraudulent.

  • The order contains an obvious product, pricing or technical error.

  • Delivery to the nominated destination is unavailable, unsafe, unlawful or impracticable.

  • The order would breach a law, publisher restriction or third-party right.

  • A reasonable quantity limit applies.

If we decline an order after receiving payment, we will notify you and promptly refund the amount paid for the unaccepted goods.

If you wish to change or cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible. We will make reasonable efforts to assist, but changes or cancellations may not be possible after an item has been dispatched or production of a custom or made-to-order product has begun. Any cancellation cost will be limited to reasonable costs already incurred and will not affect rights available under the Australian Consumer Law.

4. Product Information and Availability

We take reasonable care to keep product descriptions, images, editions, publication dates, dimensions, scales, prices and availability accurate. However:

  • Colours and fine detail may appear differently on different screens or printed materials.

  • Dimensions may be approximate and finished products may have minor manufacturing tolerances.

  • Publishers may revise, replace, withdraw or repackage products without notice.

  • Product images may show a representative section, finish or presentation rather than every detail of the supplied item.

  • Stock information can change between placing and processing an order.

We will not knowingly substitute a materially different product without your agreement. If a material specification or availability issue arises, we will contact you with reasonable options, which may include waiting, choosing an alternative or cancelling the affected item for a refund.

5. Prices, GST and Additional Charges

Unless stated otherwise, prices are in Australian dollars and include GST where applicable.

Delivery charges and any optional services are displayed before checkout or otherwise quoted before the order is accepted. For international orders, import duties, customs charges and local taxes may be imposed by the destination country as explained in section 10.

We may change prices prospectively at any time. A price change will not affect an order that has already been accepted, except where both parties agree or the law permits.

If a genuine pricing or listing error is identified before an order is accepted, we may stop offering the item at the incorrect price, notify you and provide the option to order at the correct price. If you do not wish to proceed, any payment will be refunded. If the order has already been accepted, we will contact you to reach a lawful and reasonable resolution.

6. Payment and Trade Accounts

Available payment methods are shown at checkout and may include cards, PayPal, Shop Pay, digital wallets, buy-now-pay-later services or direct deposit. Card transactions are processed through secure payment providers, including eWAY.

You authorise the selected payment provider to charge the total amount shown and confirm that you are permitted to use the selected payment method. Third-party payment and finance services may apply their own terms, eligibility rules and privacy policies.

We may delay production or dispatch until payment is authorised or cleared. If payment is declined, reversed or subject to a genuine security concern, we may contact you to request another payment method.

Approved corporate, government or trade accounts may order under separately agreed credit or purchase-order terms. Those written account terms will apply to the extent they differ from this section.

7. Custom, Personalised and Print-on-Demand Products

This section applies to products produced, altered or finished to your instructions, including print-on-demand maps, custom sizes, enlargements, laminating, canvas printing, mounting, framing, timber hang rails and products made from customer-supplied files.

You are responsible for checking the requested map, edition, scale, dimensions, orientation, material, finish, spelling and other specifications before production. If we provide a proof, production may rely on your approval of that proof. Approval does not excuse a manufacturing error by Mapworld or remove any right you have under law.

Custom printing and finishing can involve reasonable variations in colour, cropping, alignment and final dimensions. Enlarging or reducing a map will alter its printed scale unless expressly stated otherwise. We will tell you about any material change we identify before production.

If you supply artwork, mapping data, photographs, text or other content, you confirm that:

  • You own it or have permission to use and reproduce it for the order.

  • Our use of it to fulfil the order will not infringe another person’s rights or break the law.

  • It does not contain unlawful, harmful or malicious material.

You grant Mapworld a limited, non-exclusive licence to use customer-supplied content only as reasonably necessary to quote, proof, produce and fulfil the order and maintain required business records.

We may refuse content that appears unlawful, unsafe, defamatory, infringing or technically unsuitable. We will explain the issue where reasonably possible.

Because custom and made-to-order products are produced specifically for you, change-of-mind cancellation or return may not be available after production begins. If we agree to a cancellation, we may deduct reasonable costs already incurred. This does not limit remedies for faulty, damaged, incorrectly supplied or otherwise non-compliant goods.

8. Stock, Back Orders and Supply Delays

Some products are sourced from specialist publishers or produced on demand. If an item is temporarily unavailable, we may contact you to ask whether you would prefer to:

  • Wait for all items to become available.

  • Receive available items first and the remainder later.

  • Choose a suitable alternative.

  • Cancel the unavailable item and receive a refund.

We will disclose and obtain agreement to any additional delivery charge before splitting an order. If we cannot supply an item within an agreed or reasonable time, you may cancel that item and receive a refund, subject to applicable law.

9. Delivery, Collection, Title and Risk

Delivery options, charges and estimates are displayed at checkout or provided in a quotation. Delivery dates are estimates unless we expressly agree to a guaranteed date.

We will take reasonable steps to dispatch and deliver within the stated or otherwise reasonable time. Carrier disruptions, remote destinations, weather, customs, emergencies and peak periods may cause delays. If a material delay occurs, we will provide an update when reasonably possible. Your legal rights where goods are not supplied within an agreed or reasonable time remain unaffected.

You must provide a complete and accurate delivery address and any information reasonably required for delivery. If a parcel is returned or requires redelivery because the address supplied was materially incorrect or incomplete, we may ask you to pay the reasonable additional delivery cost after notifying you.

If you authorise a carrier to leave a parcel unattended, delivery in accordance with that authority will generally constitute delivery to you, subject to applicable law. Please consider whether an authority to leave is suitable for high-value, oversized or weather-sensitive products.

Title to goods passes to you when full payment has been received. Risk of accidental loss or damage remains with Mapworld until the goods are delivered to you or your nominated recipient, except to the extent the law provides otherwise.

Please inspect your parcel promptly. If it is missing, damaged or appears to have been tampered with, contact us as soon as practicable with the order number and any useful photographs so we can investigate and provide an appropriate remedy.

10. International Orders

Mapworld ships selected products to many international destinations. Availability, delivery methods and charges depend on the product and destination.

Unless checkout expressly states otherwise, the recipient is responsible for import duties, customs charges, brokerage fees and local taxes imposed by the destination country. These amounts are not controlled by Mapworld and may be collected by a government agency or carrier before delivery.

You are responsible for checking local import restrictions and providing any information required for customs clearance. We may decline or cancel an order if we cannot lawfully or reasonably deliver it to the destination, in which case we will refund the affected item and any delivery charge paid for it.

International delivery estimates may be affected by customs processing and events outside our control. Currency conversion fees are determined by your payment provider.

11. Returns, Refunds and Australian Consumer Law

Our goods and services come with automatic guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms or any Mapworld policy excludes, restricts or modifies a consumer guarantee, remedy or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

If goods have a major failure, you may be entitled to choose a refund or replacement and may also be entitled to compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If a failure is minor, Mapworld may choose to provide an appropriate repair, replacement or other remedy within a reasonable time. The precise remedy depends on the circumstances and applicable law.

Time limits, restocking fees, return conditions and exclusions stated in a voluntary change-of-mind policy apply only to change-of-mind returns. They do not restrict rights concerning faulty, damaged, incorrectly described or incorrectly supplied goods. Statutory consumer rights are not limited to 90 days.

Our voluntary return process and contact details are set out in our Refund Policy. We may reasonably ask for proof of purchase and information needed to assess the issue. Where the law requires Mapworld to bear reasonable return costs, we will do so.

12. Maps, Charts and Safe Use

Maps, charts, atlases, guidebooks and geospatial products represent information available to their publisher or producer at a particular time. Roads, tracks, access rights, boundaries, place names, hazards, services, depths, navigation aids and other features may change after publication.

Before relying on a product for travel, navigation, emergency planning, surveying, mining, legal boundaries or another safety-critical or professional purpose, you should:

  • Check the edition, publication date, scale, coverage and intended use.

  • Confirm important information against current official sources, warnings and local conditions.

  • Carry appropriate alternative navigation and safety equipment.

  • Obtain professional advice where the purpose requires it.

Historical, decorative and reproduction maps are not current navigation products. Product previews, index maps and online map-selection tools are for product identification and are not themselves intended for navigation.

Users of nautical charts are responsible for carrying the correct official chart where required and keeping it updated with the Australian Hydrographic Office’s Notices to Mariners. A chart’s currency depends on its edition and applicable corrections.

Advice from Mapworld staff is general product-selection assistance based on the information you provide. Tell us about any particular purpose or essential requirement before purchasing so we can help identify a suitable product. You remain responsible for operational and safety decisions, subject to rights that apply under law.

13. Customer Accounts

If you create an account, you are responsible for providing accurate information, keeping login details confidential and notifying us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.

You are responsible for activity conducted through your account unless it results from a security failure for which Mapworld is legally responsible. We may require reasonable identity or authority checks before changing account details or releasing order information.

14. Acceptable Use of the Website

You must not use the website to:

  • Break a law or infringe another person’s rights.

  • Submit false, misleading, fraudulent or malicious information.

  • Introduce malware or attempt to disrupt, bypass or gain unauthorised access to the website or another system.

  • Harvest personal information or conduct unreasonable automated scraping.

  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your authority.

  • Interfere with another customer’s use of the website.

  • Reproduce or commercially exploit website content without permission or a lawful right.

We may take reasonable technical or legal steps to prevent misuse and protect customers, Mapworld and third parties.

15. Intellectual Property

The website and its original text, design, layout, branding, logos, photographs, graphics and Mapworld-produced content are owned by or licensed to Mapworld and are protected by intellectual property laws.

Copyright and other rights in maps, charts, datasets, books, images and publisher materials may belong to government agencies, publishers, cartographers, photographers or other third parties. Purchasing a physical or digital product does not transfer copyright or grant a right to scan, reproduce, modify, distribute or commercially exploit it beyond any licence supplied with the product or right provided by law.

You may use the website for personal shopping and legitimate business purchasing. You may link to public pages, but you must not suggest an affiliation or endorsement that does not exist.

16. Reviews, Feedback and Other Submissions

If you submit a product review, photograph, testimonial, suggestion or other material, you confirm that it is truthful, lawful and does not infringe another person’s rights or reveal personal information without permission.

You retain ownership of your content. You grant Mapworld a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce and adapt it only for operating, improving and promoting Mapworld and its products. You may ask us to stop using content that identifies you, and we will consider the request subject to legal, archival and technical requirements.

We may decline or remove submissions that are unlawful, abusive, fraudulent, irrelevant, infringing or contain confidential information. We will not edit a genuine review in a way that materially changes its meaning.

17. Third-Party Services and Links

Our online store is hosted by Shopify. The website may also use third-party payment, finance, analytics, delivery and support services.

Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience or further information. Mapworld does not control those websites and is not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Third-party products and services may be governed by their own terms.

Your purchase contract for goods sold by Mapworld remains with Mapworld unless we clearly identify another seller before purchase.

18. Privacy and Electronic Communications

Our collection and handling of personal information is explained in the Mapworld Privacy Policy.

You agree that order confirmations, invoices, delivery updates, policy notices and other transaction-related communications may be provided electronically to the email address or telephone number supplied with your order. Marketing communications are sent only as permitted by law and include a way to unsubscribe.

19. Promotions, Discount Codes and Gift Cards

Promotions and discount codes are subject to any conditions stated with the offer. Unless stated otherwise, only one promotional code may be used per order, codes cannot be exchanged for cash and discounts cannot be applied retrospectively after an order has been accepted.

We may correct or withdraw a promotion affected by a genuine error or misuse, but will not retrospectively remove a valid discount from an accepted order without your agreement or a lawful basis.

Gift cards are governed by the terms supplied with them and applicable law. Purchased gift cards will have at least the minimum expiry period required by the Australian gift-card rules, unless a lawful exception applies.

20. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies liability, consumer guarantees or remedies that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable law.

To the extent permitted by law, Mapworld is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for loss caused by:

  • Your unlawful use or material breach of these Terms.

  • Inaccurate instructions, specifications, files or delivery information supplied by you.

  • Reliance on a historical, superseded, decorative or inappropriate product contrary to its description or the safety guidance in section 12.

  • A third-party service or event outside Mapworld’s reasonable control, except where Mapworld remains responsible under law.

This section does not exclude liability for Mapworld’s negligence, wilful misconduct, breach of contract or failure to comply with a non-excludable legal obligation.

21. Events Outside Reasonable Control

Neither party is responsible for delay or failure caused by an event outside its reasonable control, such as natural disasters, fire, flood, war, civil disturbance, industrial action, carrier disruption, government action, widespread system failure or interruption to essential services.

The affected party must take reasonable steps to reduce the impact and resume performance. If such an event prevents Mapworld from supplying an order within an agreed or reasonable time, we will contact you and provide any cancellation or refund right required by law.

22. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or restrict website access where reasonably necessary to address a material breach, fraud, unlawful conduct, security risk or harm to another person. Where appropriate, we will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue.

Termination or suspension does not affect accrued payment obligations, existing consumer rights or provisions that are intended to continue, including intellectual property, privacy, liability and dispute provisions.

23. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when our business practices, services or legal obligations change. The revised Terms will be published with a new “Last updated” date.

Changes apply prospectively. The Terms in effect when an order is accepted will continue to govern that order unless you agree otherwise or the law requires a change.

24. Disputes and Governing Law

If a concern arises, please contact us first so we can investigate and try to resolve it promptly. This does not prevent you from exercising any legal right or contacting a consumer protection agency.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia and the applicable laws of the Commonwealth of Australia. The parties submit to courts and tribunals with lawful jurisdiction. Nothing in this clause prevents a consumer from relying on a mandatory law or bringing a claim in a forum available under applicable consumer law.

25. General

If part of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, it will be read down to the minimum extent necessary or severed, and the remaining provisions will continue to operate.

If Mapworld does not immediately enforce a term, that does not waive the right to enforce it later. A waiver is effective only if clearly given in writing.

Headings are provided for convenience and do not affect interpretation. The words “including” and “includes” do not limit the examples that follow them.
