Review: Inside the New Singapore Airlines Lounge at Perth Airport

In a world increasingly obsessed with the democratization of luxury, there's still something reassuring about Singapore Airlines' refusal to dilute its standards. The newly unveiled lounge at Perth Airport is less an airport amenity, more a quiet reaffirmation that elegance—when done well—never goes out of style.
Tucked neatly into Terminal 1, the space is not one for ostentation. There is no artifice here, no attempt to overwhelm. Instead, the design—conceived in partnership with Australian firm Mitchel Squires & Associates—leans into understatement: blond timbers, matte brass finishes, and carefully modulated lighting create an atmosphere more akin to a boutique hotel than a departure hall.
On entry, one is greeted not by clatter or queues, but a kind of hushed confidence. It's the sound of proper service, of a team that understands the value of anticipation—staff who offer a glass of Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve without prompting, and who know not to disturb a business traveller mid-email unless absolutely necessary.

Food, often the undoing of an otherwise well-appointed lounge, is here both thoughtful and regionally anchored. A rotating buffet of hot dishes—beef rendang, laksa, char kway teow—pays homage to the airline's Southeast Asian heritage, while an à la carte option (think: barramundi with a tamarind glaze) offers something more tailored for the pre-flight gourmand.
The business amenities are ample without being ostentatious. Private booths with wireless charging and USB-C connectivity sit alongside communal spaces that invite conversation but never demand it. One suspects they've struck a near-perfect balance between the solitary and the social—no small feat in a transient space.
But it's the details that truly elevate the experience. The scent—custom blended, one assumes—lingers delicately. The chairs are upholstered in leather that wouldn't be out of place in a Milanese clubroom. And the restrooms? More Soho House than airport lounge, complete with Malin+Goetz amenities and towel service.
In the broader pantheon of premium lounges, Singapore Airlines' Perth offering is not the flashiest, nor the most expansive. But that's not the point. It is, instead, a quiet reminder that excellence doesn't shout. It simply shows up—on time, well-dressed, and with a perfectly chilled Sauvignon Blanc in hand.
Rating: 9/10
For those who still believe that travel is something to be savoured—not endured.
