Known as the 'City of Churches', Adelaide retains the grandeur of its gracious 19th century buildings, interspersed with those built in the Italian Renaissance style. King William St and the tree-lined North Terrace are excellent examples. With a population of more than one million residents, this planned city is easy to navigate due to its gridiron design. Its prime position on the banks of the picturesque Torrens River, among superb gardens with the blue haze of the Adeliade Hills as a backdrop, lends the city a relaxed ambience.
